The College of Administration and Economics, through its Educational Guidance and Psychological Counseling Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Economics and the Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basra, organized a seminar on rumors and their impact on local markets.
The seminar aimed to familiarize participants with the linguistic and technical definitions of rumors and to explain how to deal with false and unreliable news and verify its sources, given its negative impact on individual and societal behavior.
The seminar, presented by lecturer Raed Abdul Fahd, included a discussion of the negative effects of economic rumors on financial and commercial conditions, the anxiety and economic instability they cause, as well as their role in hindering growth, driving up prices, and creating shortages of goods, especially during times of crisis and war.
The seminar recommended the necessity of verifying the accuracy of information, refraining from spreading it, and relying on credible sources for news.
