The University of Basrah organizes an awareness workshop entitled (The Economic Impacts of Drug Trafficking in Iraq and Basrah Governorate in Particular)
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Administration and Economics, Prof. Dr. Abdul-Hussein Tawfiq Shibli.
The Educational Guidance and Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Administration and Economics, in cooperation with the Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basrah, organized an educational and guidance workshop entitled "The Economic Impacts of Drug Trafficking in Iraq, and in Basrah Governorate in Particular."
The workshop was held on Wednesday, 16/4/2025, in the Economics Department's laboratory hall.
The workshop, presented by Assistant Lect. Jaafar Ghazi, a lecturer in the Economics Department, covered the economic impacts of drug trafficking in Iraq and its negative effects, which lead to the destruction of the local economy due to its negative impact on public health, families, and society, increasing the financial burden on the state.
The workshop aimed to highlight the economic impacts of drug trafficking, represented by increased crime and violence, which negatively impact public security, in addition to the psychological effects that lead to the destruction of human capital, as users and dealers lose the ability to contribute positively to society.
Finally, the workshop recommended providing psychological and social support to individuals at risk of addiction, providing employment and training opportunities for youth, organizing recreational, sports, and cultural activities for youth, and providing psychological and social support for youth. Educating young people about the dangers of drug abuse through awareness campaigns and programs that strengthen the family's role in raising awareness, guiding, and caring for children, providing psychological and social support for children, monitoring their behavior, providing early intervention in the event of any problems, and providing a safe and stable environment for children.
