UNIVERSITY OF BASRAH INVESTIGATES SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT MEASUREMENT AND DISCLOSURE REQUIREMENTS IN INDUSTRIAL COMPANIES
A master's thesis at the College of Administration and Economics, Department of Accounting, examined the measurement and disclosure requirements for sustainable development for industrial companies in light of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards.
The study, presented by student Zahir Habib Bahedh, aimed to determine the extent to which the Southern State Company for Fertilizer Industries and the General Company for Petrochemical Industries could meet the measurement and disclosure requirements for sustainable development in accordance with GRI standards. To achieve the study's objective, a proposed framework for measuring and disclosing sustainable development was designed in accordance with GRI standards.
The study concluded that the Southern State Company for Fertilizer Industries performed better than the General Company for Petrochemical Industries in meeting the measurement and disclosure requirements for sustainable development in accordance with GRI standards. The study also recommended the need to prioritize sustainable development in order to create a safe environment free from harm to the environment and the surrounding community. It also recommended adhering to the proposed framework to enhance the reputation and value of the study sample companies among various stakeholders.
