A MASTER’S THESIS AT BASRA UNIVERSITY DISCUSSED MEASURING THE EFFICIENCY OF IRAQI ECONOMICAL BANKS USING THE DATA ENVELOPE ANALYSIS (DEA) METHOD FOR THE PERIOD (2014-2018)
On Tuesday 29/9/2020 a master's thesis in financial and banking sciences discussed measuring the efficiency of Iraqi commercial banks using the data envelope analysis method (DEA) for the period (2014-2018).
The thesis that presented by the researcher (Ahmed Sami Ibrahim) included four chapters in which the first chapter dealt with the research methodology and previous studies, and the second chapter include efficiency as an indicator for evaluation the performance of banks, and the third chapter included measuring the efficiency of Iraqi commercial banks, and finally the fourth chapter concerned with the conclusion and recommendation.
The thesis aimed to identify efficient and inefficient banks, with stating the reasons for inefficiency, thus setting the solution, drawing the steps to be followed, and identifying reference points that must be resorted by inefficient banks.
The thesis concluded that there are a banks achieved efficiency because they used their inputs optimally to reach the maximum level of output, on the other hand, there are banks did not achieve efficiency due to their failure of employ their mix of inputs, which turn achieves an optimal output level.
The researcher recommended the adoption of non –parameterized quantitative measurement methods, including DEA as a tool for measuring banking efficiency because it corresponds to the work of banks, and banks that have not achieved efficiency must skip the steps that have achieved full efficiency and take into account the reasons that have become an obstacle between the bank and its efficiency.
