University of Basrah Organizes a Scientific Workshop Titled "The Digital Iraqi Dinar: Reality and Possibilities"
The Educational Guidance and Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Administration and Economics, in cooperation with the Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basrah, organized a scientific workshop titled "The Digital Iraqi Dinar: Reality and Possibilities" on Tuesday,22/4/2025, in Al-Hurriya Hall.
The workshop, presented by Lect. Dr. Shurooq Khalaf Latif, Head of the Department of banking and financial science and Lect. Dr. Aqeel Abdul Muhammad Abbas, a lecturer in the Department of banking and financial science, included:
The concept of the digital Iraqi dinar, a project aimed at converting the Iraqi dinar into a digital currency, was discussed, along with its positive and negative effects and the challenges it faces.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of the potential for the digital dinar to increase financial inclusion in Iraq, allowing individuals to access financial services more easily. The digital dinar can also reduce the costs associated with handling paper money.
In conclusion, the workshop emphasized the importance of the digital Iraqi dinar, which could be a significant project for improving financial services and strengthening the Iraqi economy. However, Iraq needs to overcome technical, logistical, and financial challenges to successfully implement this project through dissemination, awareness-raising, and engagement with countries operating within it.
