BASRA UNIVERSITY ORGANIZES A WORKSHOP ON THE PHENOMENON OF SLUMS IN BASRA GOVERNORATE


On Sunday 12/12/2021, the Statistics Department of the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Basra organized a workshop on the phenomenon of slums in Basra Governorate - causes and treatments at the Al-Huoria Hall in the college.
The workshop aimed to identify the most important reasons that led to the spread of the phenomenon of slums in Basra Governorate, and what are the most appropriate solutions to this phenomenon.
The workshop which was moderated by the head of the Statistics Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Raysan Abdul-Imam Zaalan was attended by the Lecturer Dr. Muhammad Musa Mohsen, the engineer Muhannad Yousef Yaqoub the director of the housing department in the Basra Governorate Diwan, and the engineer Ibrahim Abdul Salam Ibrahim the director of town planning in the Basra municipality directorate.
Mr. Aqil Dawood Salman director of the Basra Housing Fund, set out a number of axes. The first axis was about the concept of slums, and the second axis explained the reasons for the spread of slums in Basra. The third axis explained the environmental effects of slums. Then the fourth axis focused on the distribution of housing in Basra Governorate. The fifth axis touched on the forms taken by slums and finally the sixth axis put forward a set of proposed treatments for this problem.
At the end of the workshop certificates of appreciation were distributed by Prof. Dr. Abdul-Hussein Tawfiq Shibli Dean of the College to the lecturers for the abundant and comprehensive information they provided on the topic of the workshop.
