THE UNIVERSITY OF BASRAH IS INVESTIGATING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VALUE STREAM MAPPING AND IMPROVING SERVICE QUALITY IN THE MARITIME TRANSPORT SECTOR:
A master's thesis at the College of Administration and Economics, Department of Business Administration, University of Basrah, examined the topic of "Using Value Stream Mapping to Improve the Quality of Container Transport Services / A Case Study of Umm Qasr Port."
The study, presented by student Mohammed Fareeh Hamid, aims to analyze the steps of the operational process, identify waste in time and effort, and improve operational efficiency at Umm Qasr Port. The thesis included a theoretical and field study of a group of ships at Umm Qasr Port, analyzing their data, and identifying sources of waste in effort and time.
The study concluded that implementing value stream mapping improves the quality of services provided to customers in the maritime transport sector. The study recommended adopting a lean manufacturing culture to reduce waste and enhance operational performance.
