A master's thesis at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Basrah, examined the role of the circular economy in achieving environmental sustainability, drawing on international experiences with a focus on Iraq.
The thesis, submitted by student Batoul Wameedh Ali, aimed to demonstrate the importance of Iraq adopting circular economy practices, its requirements, and the extent to which environmental laws are being implemented.
The thesis employed both deductive and inductive methodologies, reviewing the experiences of Sweden and Saudi Arabia in waste management and emissions reduction, and exploring their applicability to the Iraqi context.
The thesis concluded that the future of environmental sustainability in Iraq depends on adopting scientific and professional policies that align with international community requirements and development indicators.
The thesis recommended providing government support for circular economy projects and moving away from the entrenched bureaucracy in Iraq.
