UNIVERSITY OF BASRAH ORGANIZES AN AWARENESS-RAISING WORKSHOP ENTITLED (THE ROLE OF SPORTS IN ELIMINATING THE PHENOMENON OF DRUGS IN SOCIETY:

The Educational Guidance and Psychological Guidance Unit at the College of Administration and Economics, in cooperation with the Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basrah, organized an awareness-raising workshop entitled (The role of sports in eliminating the phenomenon of drugs in society) on Tuesday 2/25/2025.
The workshop aimed at the importance of sports and its role in helping to improve self-confidence and self-esteem, which reduces the desire to resort to drugs.
The workshop, which was lectured by Assistant Lecturer Israa Khairi Abd and Assistant Lecturer Asia Ali, lecturers in the Department of banking and financial Sciences, included the role that sports play in eliminating the phenomenon of drugs in society, its positive effects, and providing healthy alternatives through which energies and interests related to sports activities can be expressed and mental health can be enhanced, which reduces the risk of exposure to drug abuse.
Finally, the workshop recommended providing a safe and respectful environment for young people, and developing sports programs in schools and universities to encourage young people to participate in sports activities, establishing community sports centers, and organizing sports awareness programs, which reduces the chances of youth being exposed to drugs.
