BASRA UNIVERSITY DISCUSSES THE ROLE OF ROREIGN BANKS IN THE IRAQI BANKING SYSTEM:  

 A panel discussion took place at the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Basra on (the role of foreign banks in the Iraqi banking system). Researcher Ibtihal Jalil Muhsin said that foreign banks have an important role in the banking system by creating competition with local banks by providing bank credit, reducing the cost of automated access and using technology in services banking.

 The researcher explained that the importance of the research stems from the positive effects that the presence of foreign banks has on the national economy in general and the Iraqi banking system in particular, by increasing access to credit and creating competition between foreign and local banks and creating technology and banking services on the one hand and the risks that accompany the existence of these banks in Iraq.

 The researcher recommended addressing the concept and role of foreign banks in developing countries, shedding light on the reality of foreign banks operating in Iraq, and determining the volume of bank credit in Iraq and the extent of foreign banks ’contribution to it.
