THE UNIVERSITY OF BASRAH ORGANIZES AN AWARENESS GUIDANCE SEMINAR ON THE DANGERS OF DRUGS AND PSYCHOTROPIC SUBSTANCES IN SOCIETY BETWEEN CAUSES AND TREATMENTS
On Tuesday 14/3/2023 the Educational Counseling and Psychological Guidance Unit at the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Basrah organized an awareness-guidance seminar on the dangers of drugs and psychotropic substances in society between causes and treatments.
The seminar which was moderated by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs Prof. Dr. Nadwa Hilal Joudeh, aimed at guiding the students and providing them with sufficient information about the types of drugs and methods of their spread in order to avoid falling into their trap, in addition to identifying the types of penalties and laws applicable to drug users and traffickers.
The seminar in which Lieutenant Colonel Fouad Muhsir Jassem Al-Asadi from the Basrah Governorate Police Command / Training and Courses Department, presented several main axes, where the first axis explained the devastating negative effects and crimes left by the scourge of drugs. The second axis explained the methods used for its spread in society, and the third axis touched on the health and behavioral effects and their symptoms represented by weak religious awareness and upbringing resulting from family disintegration, ignorance and lack of education, and resorting to some narcotic and analgesic drugs without medical advice in addition to physical symptoms such as nausea, kidney disease and system diseases. The fourth axis concluded with hostility, impulsiveness hallucinations and loss of control.
The seminar recommended relying on early awareness of both private and public schools by showing the danger of drugs to the individual and the society around him and urging them to reject them by all means. It also recommended that parents educate their children, especially during the teenage and youth stages, about the dangers of drugs and the form that the abuser reaches, with the need to treat psychological and family problems. Which may often cause the individual to turn to drug use, and finally the use of social media that all young people and adolescents are interested in to promote awareness campaigns that meet the need to stay away from drug use.
