The University of Basrah holds a celebration on the occasion of the International Day of the Arabic Language:

The Deanship of the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Educational Counseling and Psychological Guidance Unit and under the auspices of the respected Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Abul Hussein Tawfeeq Shibli hold a special celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language, which falls on the eighteenth of December of each year.

The ceremony opened with a fragrant and blessed recitation of the Holy Quran and the reading of Surat Al-Fatihah on the souls of the martyrs of Iraq.

The program of the ceremony included the speech of the Dean Prof. Dr. Abdel-Hussein Tawfiq Shibli on this occasion, then Prof. Dr. Sabah Abdel-Karim Mahdi delivered a speech on preserving the Arabic language, in which he emphasized the importance of the Arabic language and encouraged everyone to learn it, master it and preserve it, and the need to introduce it to all humanity, especially in  its International Day.

At the end of the ceremony, words and poems were recited by a group of male and female students of the college to celebrate this occasion.
