BASRA UNIVERSITY DISCUSSES THE FINANCIAL ROLE OF INVESTMENT IN ADVANCING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN IRAQ

 The University of Basra, College of Business and Economics discussed a master's thesis on the financial role of investment in advancing economic development in Iraq, a case study of Basra Governorate for the period 2009-2018 for the student (Fatima Ahmed Abdul-Jalil).

 The study aimed to clarify the great importance of investment, whether financial investment or foreign direct investment, for the advancement of the Iraqi economy in general and Basra Governorate in particular, and thus raising the level of economic development by identifying investment obstacles and submitting proposals to address these obstacles.

 The study reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which is the importance of local and foreign direct investment in raising the wheel of economic development in Iraq in general and Basra in particular, the decrease in support by the government for local investment and reliance on imports to meet the market need. The study also showed that the state’s interest is directed towards the oil sector only and neglecting the rest of the sectors.  Significantly, which led to its deterioration and reduced impact on the country's development
