BASRA UNIVERSITY ORGANIZES AN ECONOMIC SCIENTIFIC SYMPOSIUM ON (THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL EFFECTS ON THE PHENOMENON OF TERRORISM IN IRAQ) 
On Thursday 24/3/2022, the Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics at Basra University organized an economic scientific symposium on the economic and social effects of the phenomenon of terrorism in Iraq - an analytical study of the period of ISIS occupation of some Iraqi provinces.
The symposium aimed to shed light on the phenomenon of terrorism and explain the most important economic effects represented in the destruction of infrastructure in the western regions, the decline in oil production and the increase in military spending to confront the terrorist organization ISIS and the extent of its impact on investment in particular and economic activity in general, as well as a statement of the social effects which is the displacement of families in the forefront Which is estimated at (5-3.5) million displaced people and claimed the lives of thousands of people in the country, in addition to showing the economic costs which were estimated at more than 850 billion dollars.
The symposium which was attended by Prof. Dr. Adnan Farhan Al-Jourani, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saddam Abdel-Saheb, and Lecturer Ali Talib Shehab, included three main axes the first axis introducing the phenomenon of terrorism and its most important causes. The second axis explained the economic and social effects of the phenomenon of terrorism in Iraq and finally the third axis touched on costs the economic phenomenon of terrorism in Iraq.
The symposium recommended the necessity of eliminating the remnants of the terrorist organization and drying up the sources of funding, and reconstructing the affected areas, as well as returning the displaced to their areas.
