BASRA UNIVERSITY GAIN THE THIRD PLACE IN THE IRAQI CLASSIFICATION OF UNIVERSITIES IRU
The University of Basra ranked third among public universities in the Iraqi classification of universities (IRU) according to the standards of the Quality Assurance Department and the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The specialists in this file have conducted a comprehensive evaluation of eighty-three governmental and private educational institutions distributed over thirty-six public universities, forty-seven universities and private colleges, eight hundred and seventy-five specialized colleges, and one thousand seven hundred and twenty-nine scientific departments.
The evaluation included standards related to the institutional environment and academic programs. Their details and weights were divided into two groups. The first is related to standards for assessing institutional performance, which includes quality and institutional accreditation 20%, international classifications 15%, effectiveness of scientific research 20%, community service 5%, resource maximization 10%, faculty members 10% and students 15% and international diversity 5%.
The second concerns the criteria for evaluating the performance of scientific departments, which include quality and program accreditation 35%, effectiveness of scientific research 30%, faculty members 20%, and students 15%.
The President of Basra University, Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, praised the efforts of the university’s cadres, which culminated in this great achievement, and stressed that our university continues its procedures and policy in developing its performance, improving its programs, and measuring its outputs and their relevance to global developments.
